I don't know if this is common knowledge, but I discovered that using a clay bar and lubricant on my windshield followed by window cleaner and cloths resulted in the cleanest windshield I have had since the car was new.

Mine is so pitted at 15k that there is no hope for it, except eventual replacement!

I happened to use a Pinnacle clay bar with Pinnacle clay bar lubricant, but most top brand clay bars should work fine. The final cleaning was with Griot's Garage Glass Cleaner. I usually use Sprayway Glass Cleaner in the aerosol can - it's alcohol based and works like a dream. I buy it at Costco.
Here's a good clay bar and lubricant set:

If you want to splurge, I have used and trust Swissvax products (my Z8 won 2nd place at the local Concours d'Elegance with Swissvax Crystal Rock wax on it):

This wax is $1100 for a 200ml container , but you use very little at a time - my detailer actually applied it from his stock.
Finally, for all types of detailing, I use 1Z EINSZETT products on a regular basis:

I think the 1Z line of products are the best quality/value on the market.
