I think that's the OEM cover. I have the same thing in the silver material... came with the car. Should be able to order it from your dealer or Dana Caldwell at Peter Pan! If anyone can get it he can.

I would have thought that a car with the kind of mileage would fetch a much higher price.

Did you sell your z8. I am new to the site and not really chat savvy but I am very interested in a Black on Black z8 or Silver and black. Really I just want one that has been cared for and not abused. I found one in hamptons but my mechanic said there was some body repair.

Do you have the vin for the car with repair work? We may want to document that for future reference.

Not sure about the damage if any, I had a car wholesaler / mechanic look at it briefly and he noticed swirl marks from a buffer on the fender and some paint chip repairs. He also noticed a slight gap difference at the hood on one side. I was not really in love with the car then like I am now so I passed on it. The owner said it was from the detail job before trying to sell it, and the car had never been in an accident. He was asking 95 for the car and last year it seemed expensive. Overall the car was beautiful and perhaps nothing was wrong with it...
I do really want one now and am going to see a silver car listed in Manhattan, and found a black one on Ebay motors out of California that looks interesting. I will spend up to 100k for the right one. I see there are quite a few listed on Auto Trader as well.
I really want one!! UGH.... So much info on this site its overwhelming.

Chris, swirl marks, buffer marks, etc can be a problem or they could just be a ham handed detailer. These are all older cars now so you will have to expect to find some paint chips and repairs of paint chips. Also you should know these are hand made cars- there can be some discrepancies in certain panel gaps. But you should review the frame forum here to learn about what to avoid.

Got it. I think since I am not anywhere near an expert, I will just hire someone to really look it over for me. If you hear of a nice one worth buying, let me know. this one seems interesting to me. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=294226675&dealer_id=66045043&car_year=2001&systime=&doors=&model=Z8&search_lang=en&start_year=2001&body_style=CONVERT&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=0&min_price=&rdm=1326249019582&drive=&marketZipError=false&advanced=&fuel=&keywords_display=&sownerid=100008212&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2013&showZipError=y&make2=&certified=&engine=&dma=NEW_YORK_LI&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=1&isFlashPlugin=true&transmission=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&color=&address=11963&sort_type=priceDESC&max_price=&make=BMW&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=1459&standard=false&rdpage=thumb
However Black / Black is still my first choice. Whats the difference between 01 and 02 models? Other then the performance upgrade for the structural issue, do I need anything else?

Do yourself a huge favor. DO NOT buy any Z8 without having an expert who is very familiar with them do a pre purchase inspection before you buy. What you think was a great buy may end up being a big nightmare if you buy the wrong car.
P.S. Feel free to email me at martincompany@raodrunner.com. I would be happy to explain the differences to you. I have owned four Z8's, currently a 2003 Alpina. I know Z8's inside out. Happy to help.

I looked over that car in detail. Feel fee to pm me about it. However I also suggest you talk to Marty (havenhurstkid). He was my Z8 guru in my purchase and there is none better.

Having sold a car to Marty I can tell you he is extremely knowledgable and thorough! Agree with Z8, hire Marty.

Btw- its not just the Z8. Every car I know of has issues that become better known with time. These are just machines; which is my point. You are best served hiring someone knowledgable like Marty. We here can give help and opinions but he is a professional. I also highly recommend you check the frame forum for probably the single most important Z8 issue there is.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will hire Marty without a doubt. It seems I spend countless hours looking for the right car and have been reading posts going back a few years about the different upgrades and features. I never realized how much people really love these cars, or I am sure some hate them. There must be a dozen of them here in the Hamptons, I saw a red one today driving around town. I am tempted to just buy a silver one but I think I will regret it with three silver cars already in the driveway. Love the Black!! Manhattan Maserati has a nice silver and black one for me to see. Heading there tomorrow.. Will keep you posted.

Since you've lowered the price from when you first posted the car, you might want to edit lead post to reflect what you're now asking. Interested buyers may not scroll down or even spot the post with your new price.
You should see an EDIT button on the original post. By clicking that you can change or add info.
Good luck!
