View Full Version : Question: Alpina Dynamic 20" Wheel

I've inquired with the US distributor of Alpina regarding this wheel. She informs me that this wheel MUST be mated to a runflat tire and that a standard tire can't be fitted. I think this is different from what I read in reviews of the Alpina Z8. Does anyone have a standard tire fitted to an Alpina Dynamic wheel? Is it possible that they changed the design of the wheel since they manufactured the car? The other odd think about this is I can't find ANY run flat tires in this size on sites like Tire Rack or Discount Tire. Thanks in advance for your responses.

The Alpina came standard with non run flats. Mine are OEM (MPS2s) and have 25000 miles on them.

especially considering you are in one of the hottest parts of the nation.

It's way more than I expected. They've only got a couple thousand more in them (I hope!) because I have one more trip planned for Lake Tahoe/Sonoma/Hwy 1 on these tires. I'll have to replace them after that trip.
We're planning to go around the end of Sep/ 1st week of Oct. We'll probably hit Yosemite this time as well. Are you up for it? How about lunch at the Mobile Station in Lee Vining?

on my Alpina and was able to order the replacement tire from the dealer that the car was flatbedded to. While waiting for the flatbed to show I called the dealer and they pulled up on the system the OEM (MPS2s), which are not run flats, and said that they could have one there by today. I am a bit skeptical that they will have it that fast but they said they will. As a side note, as I entered the highway I felt a slight slipping of the rear end on the ramp but thought it must have been the leaves on the road surface as they have really started to come down this past week. As I kept driving it was bothering me that I felt the slip and looked down at the dash only to see that the tire pressure light had come on. The car felt fine but I decided to pull over to take a look and the passenger rear tire was practically in shreds. If the problem happened on the entrance ramp then I would have driven roughly 4 miles at highway speed on the tire. This is my first experience with a flat on a low profile tire, but I will tell you that the tire pressure light was invaluable as the car did not handle any differently with the flat other then the slip I felt on the entrance ramp. Had I gone a few more minutes on the tire I would probably be looking for a replacement rim today.
